My photos will not upload
Check the file type and the size first: Jinu accepts JPG, PNG, WebP and GIF up to 8 MB each, and on an iPhone the most common cause by far is a HEIC file or a Live Photo.
On an iPhone
iPhones shoot HEIC by default, and Jinu cannot read it. Two fixes, either works:
- Open Settings, Camera, Formats on the phone and choose Most Compatible. New photos are then JPEG.
- Turn Live Photo off in the camera, using the concentric-circles button at the top of the viewfinder, before you take the photo you are going to post.
Picking an existing photo from the iOS library usually works anyway, because Jinu asks the picker for those exact formats and iOS converts the file as it hands it over. Sharing a photo from another app is where the original HEIC tends to slip through.
Do not rename a .heic file to .jpg. Jinu inspects the actual bytes of the file, not the name, so a renamed file is refused in the same way.
If the photo is large
A photo between roughly 4.5 MB and 8 MB is shrunk in your browser before it is sent, so a big camera photo normally goes through on its own. If one still fails, resize it to about 1600 pixels on the long edge and try again. Nothing visible is lost: Jinu resizes to 1600 pixels on its own side anyway.
Other reasons an upload fails
- You are signed out. Uploading needs a free account. The message reads "Sign in to upload images."
- Too many uploads too quickly. There is a cap per connection over a ten-minute window, and an hourly cap per account that is smaller on a brand-new account than on an established one. Wait a few minutes and continue; nothing you already uploaded is lost.
- The safety scan rejected it. Every image is scanned before it is stored. If you believe a photo was rejected wrongly, email safety@jinu.app and say which listing it was for.
- The safety scan was unavailable. Uploads fail closed rather than skipping the check, so the answer is to retry in a few minutes.
- Screenshots of screens upload fine, but a screenshot of a photo loses a lot of quality. Send the original.
