Delete your account
You can delete your Jinu account and its associated data yourself, at any time, from inside the app or the website. Deletion is permanent and cannot be undone. This page explains exactly how to do it, what happens if the confirmation code we email you does not arrive, what is deleted, what is kept and for how long, and how to reach us if you cannot access your account.
Delete your account from the website
Deleting your account is self-serve and takes under a minute. You do not need the mobile app installed, and you do not need to contact us. This is also the route to use if you deleted the app before deleting your account.
- Sign in at www.jinu.app with the email or the sign-in provider you normally use.
- Open Settings.
- Go to Account management.
- Choose Delete account.
- Re-type your account email exactly when prompted. This confirmation step exists so an account cannot be deleted by someone with brief access to an unlocked device.
- Ask for your confirmation code. We email a six-digit code to your account address. It arrives within a minute or so and is valid for ten minutes.
- Enter the code, then confirm. Your account is deleted immediately and you are signed out.
The emailed code is a deliberate second step. Jinu is passwordless, so without it anyone who got hold of your signed-in session could destroy your account with information they can already read on the screen. If the code does not arrive, check your spam folder and ask for a new one; each new code replaces the previous one.
If the code never arrives
Email is not guaranteed to be delivered, and a code that never lands would otherwise leave you stuck on a screen asking for it. You do not have to write to anyone. On the same screen, choose The code never arrived and we will delete the account for you.
- You are given a reference number, in the form JINU-XXXXXX, straight away and on screen. Write it down.
- We delete the account and confirm to you within 30 days, and normally much sooner. That is an outer bound, not a target: it is the shorter of the two deadlines the law sets us for an erasure request.
- Pressing it twice does not create a second request. You get the same reference back, so there is only ever one request per account and one thing for us to answer.
- A person reviews each of these before acting, because the automatic proof that the account is yours is the emailed code, and by definition that is what has failed. We may ask you to confirm something, and we will decline a request we cannot verify, since acting on an unverified request would let a stranger delete your account.
You can also write to privacy@jinu.app if you prefer, quoting your reference if you already have one. That route works and always has, but it is the alternative rather than the way we expect you to do this: everything you need is in the app.
Delete your account from the iOS or Android app
The same control is built into both mobile applications, so you never have to leave the app to delete your account. The steps are identical on iOS and on Android.
- Open the Jinu app and make sure you are signed in.
- Open the Account tab, then Settings.
- Go to Account management.
- Choose Delete account. The screen lists what deletion removes before you commit to it.
- Type your account email to confirm, then ask for your confirmation code. We email a six-digit code to your account address, valid for ten minutes.
- Enter the code, then confirm. Your account is deleted immediately and you are signed out on that device.
If the code does not arrive, the mobile screens offer the same fallback as the website: choose The code never arrived, and you are given a JINU-XXXXXX reference on screen and we complete the deletion for you within 30 days, normally much sooner. Section 01 above describes exactly what happens next; it is the same process on all three platforms.
If your app is an older version that does not show a field for the code, update it, or delete your account from www.jinu.app instead. Both routes delete the same account and the same data.
Deleting your Jinu account does not cancel any subscription or purchase held by Apple or Google. Purchases and refunds made through the App Store or Google Play are managed by Apple and Google under their own policies, not by Jinu.
What is deleted, and what is kept
Deleted permanently
When you delete your account, the following are erased and cannot be recovered:
- Your sign-in record and authentication identity, including any linked Google, Apple, or X sign-in.
- Your profile: display name, username, biography, avatar, default location, and all notification and privacy settings.
- Every listing you posted, in every state, including drafts, active, paused, sold, and expired listings.
- Every photograph, video, and file you uploaded, including listing photos, images you sent in chat, photographs of items you offered in a trade, your avatar, any profile cover image you set before that feature was withdrawn, and any resume you attached to a job application. Photographs are stored in several sizes and every size is removed, along with any photograph you uploaded and then never published. These are removed from file storage, not only from the database.
- Your messages, both sent and received, and your archived conversations.
- Your offers, both those you made and those you received.
- Your saved and liked listings, and your saved searches.
- Your follows, in both directions, so you no longer follow anyone and no one follows you.
- Your blocks, in both directions.
- Your push-notification device registrations, on web and on mobile, so notifications stop.
- Your analytics, signup, lifecycle, referral, and feedback records, and your username reservation.
Anonymised rather than deleted
A small number of records are kept with your identity stripped out, because deleting them outright would corrupt someone else's data or would destroy a safety record. In each case your email address is replaced with a non-routable placeholder and the record can no longer be traced to you:
- Reviews you wrote about other sellers. The rating stays attached to the seller you rated, so their average rating remains accurate, but the review is no longer attributable to you.
- Completed deal records where you were the buyer, so the other party's transaction history stays intact.
- Reports you filed and safety-risk records, so a moderation decision made about someone else does not disappear when a reporter leaves.
- Administrative audit-log entries, if you were a Jinu administrator, so the audit trail remains complete.
Kept for a limited period
Your account and the data listed above are removed from the live Jinu Service immediately, not after a waiting period, and there is no grace period in which the account can be restored.
Two things outlive that moment, both on a fixed clock:
- Encrypted operational backups: up to 30 days. Backups are taken on a rolling schedule as ordinary disaster-recovery practice, and each expires automatically within 30 days of being taken, so a copy of a deleted record can survive inside one for at most that long. Backups are never queried to run the Jinu Service and are only ever read to recover from a disaster. We do not surgically edit backups, because the expiry is what erases them.
- Server, diagnostic, and usage logs: up to 90 days, and up to 180 days for the listing-view counters behind a seller's own analytics, which record that a listing was viewed rather than who viewed it. These are pruned automatically on a nightly schedule. The full table is in our Cookie Policy.
Jinu may also retain information for longer where retention is required by law, or where it is necessary to resolve a dispute, enforce our agreements, or prevent fraud and abuse, as described in Section 06 of the Privacy Policy. Records of payments you made are kept as financial records for tax, accounting, and chargeback purposes, with your email address, billing identifier, and receipt links stripped out, so the amount and date survive and the link to you does not.
Outside our control
Content you sent to another member's device, screenshots others took, and pages already crawled and cached by a search engine are not within Jinu's control and cannot be recalled by deleting your account.
Export your data first
Deletion is permanent, so if you want a copy of your data, export it before you delete. You can request an export from Settings, or by writing to privacy@jinu.app from the email address on your account.
If you cannot sign in
This section is only for the case where you cannot get into your account at all. If you can sign in and it is the deletion code that will not arrive, you do not need any of this: use The code never arrived on the delete screen, described in Section 01.
Jinu is passwordless: there is no password to lose. If you cannot get into your account, enter your email address on the sign-in screen and we will send you a fresh sign-in link, with a six-digit code in the same email as a fallback if the link does not work. That will normally restore access so you can delete the account yourself.
If you still cannot sign in, write to privacy@jinu.app from the email address associated with the account and ask us to delete it. We verify a deletion request against the account email before acting on it, and we will confirm to you when the deletion is complete. If you cannot write from that address, tell us what you can about the account and we will work with you to verify ownership another way; we may decline a request we cannot verify, because acting on an unverified request would let a stranger delete your account.
Deleting a single listing instead
If you only want a listing gone, you do not need to delete your account. Open the listing, choose Manage, and delete it, or mark it as sold to take it out of the feed while keeping your account. If you posted without an account, use the management link emailed to you when you posted; if you no longer have it, request a new one at Resend link.
Your other privacy rights
Depending on where you live, you may also have the right to access, correct, and obtain a portable copy of your personal information, and to appeal a denied request. Account deletion through the steps above is intended to satisfy applicable erasure rights, including under Article 17 of the General Data Protection Regulation and Section 1798.105 of the California Civil Code. To exercise any other right, use the in-app tools or write to privacy@jinu.app. We respond within the time required by applicable law. Full detail is in our Privacy Policy.
