Cookies, analytics and tracking
Two things decide whether Jinu measures your visit: where you are, and what you have told us. In the United States and its territories, first-party analytics is on from the moment the page loads and no banner interrupts you; you can turn it off at any time. Everywhere else a banner asks first, and nothing beyond essential cookies runs until you press Accept. Choosing "Essential only" leaves measurement off, and outside the United States so does ignoring the banner, because no answer is treated as no there.
What the analytics setting controls
- Product analytics. Which pages are opened and which flows are abandoned, measured by a product-analytics provider (PostHog, in the United States) through our own domain.
- Session recording. A recording of your own session: the pages you move through and where you click, so a confusing screen can be seen rather than guessed at. It runs only when product analytics is allowed, on the website and in the iPhone and Android apps alike. Everything you type, every message in both directions, other members' names and handles, addresses, phone numbers, email addresses, and checkout and billing pages are masked on your device before anything is sent. Public listing photos, titles and prices can appear. Recordings are kept for the period set in the provider's retention policy, currently 30 days.
- Server-side funnel events. These honor the same setting, so turning analytics off is not quietly undone by measuring the same thing on the server.
Error replay is separate, and stays off until you accept it
Sentry error replay is a limited reconstruction of a session attached to an error report, so a crash can be diagnosed from what happened rather than from a stack trace alone. It masks all text and blocks all media. Unlike product analytics it is never on by default anywhere, including in the United States: it runs only after you press Accept, and only on the website.
What the two buttons mean
- Accept. Product analytics, session recording and error replay are allowed.
- Essential only. None of them runs. The site works normally.
Your answer is stored in a first-party cookie, jinu_cookie_consent. An acceptance is kept for 180 days; a refusal is kept for ten years, so that saying no does not quietly lapse back into the default.
What runs regardless
Cookies that make the site function: your sign-in session, your language, your consent choice itself, and the security and rate-limiting machinery that keeps the marketplace usable. There is no way to turn those off and stay signed in, and none of them is used for advertising.
What Jinu does not do
- No advertising cookies and no ad network.
- No third-party trackers following you off the site.
- No selling your data. There is also a Do not sell or share page for the state rights that go with that.
Global Privacy Control is honored
If your browser sends a Global Privacy Control signal, product analytics, session recording and error replay all stay off for the whole visit, regardless of any earlier acceptance and wherever you are. A browser-level objection outranks a button you pressed a month ago.
Changing your mind
Use Cookie settings in the footer to reopen the choice and answer again. It takes effect on the page you are on, without a reload.
If you have an account there is a second control: Analytics cookies on the Privacy page in Settings, under Privacy and trust. It is on by default, and switching it off overrides an earlier Accept, so an account-level no wins over a banner-level yes. It turns session recording off with it.
