Courier and shipping scams

"My agent will collect it and pay you" is a scam. Jinu is built around meeting locally instead, which is why it is also the cheapest way to sell here.

How the courier version runs

The buyer is too busy, or out of state, or buying it as a gift. They will send a courier. The courier arrives, collects the item, and leaves. The payment was "sent" and is "processing", or a fake confirmation arrives, or the money appears and is reversed a week later. The item is gone and the courier was hired with a stolen card, so there is nothing to trace.

A second version reverses it: you are asked to pay a shipping company for insurance, a customs fee or a delivery guarantee, and the buyer promises to add it to the payment. The shipping company is a website made last week.

What Jinu does and does not do

Jinu does not arrange couriers and does not collect delivery fees. The delivery options on a listing, pickup, meetup and delivery, describe what the two of you have agreed between yourselves. Nobody from Jinu will contact you about a shipment, and Jinu never asks you to enter payment details through a link in a message.

If you do ship something

  • Do not ship until the payment has fully cleared, not merely started.
  • Photograph the item and the packaging before you seal the box, and keep the photos.
  • Use tracked and insured shipping, and keep the receipt and the tracking number.
  • Ship only to the address the buyer gave in the payment. Never redirect to a freight forwarder, which is the single most common request in this scam.
  • Be more careful, not less, with a buyer who overpays, insists on a particular courier, or rushes you.

If you are the buyer

Pay with a card or PayPal Goods and Services for anything shipped, so a dispute is possible. Get the make, model and serial number before paying. Open and inspect the parcel the day it arrives and photograph anything wrong before you contact the seller.

Reporting

Report the conversation from its three-dot menu, report the listing with the reason Spam or scam, and block the account. If the item has already gone, keep everything and follow the recovery steps in I think I have been scammed.
