Law enforcement requests

Law-enforcement and governmental requests go to legal@jinu.app. A request should identify the requesting authority, the legal basis relied on, and the specific accounts, listings or records sought. Preservation requests go to the same address.

This is not an emergency line and it is not monitored around the clock. If there is an immediate risk to life, contact emergency services; in the United States, 911.

What to include

  • The agency, the requesting officer, and a return address at an official domain.
  • The legal instrument and the authority it is issued under.
  • Precise identifiers. The full jinu.app address of a listing or a profile, or the account email address. A name alone is rarely enough to identify an account.
  • The date range you need.
  • Whether you are also asking for preservation while the process is obtained, and of what.

A narrow, specific request is answered faster than a broad one, because we review every request for validity and scope and produce only what the request properly reaches.

Notice to the affected member

Where the law permits it and no exception applies, we notify the member before disclosing their information. If your request needs that notice delayed, say so and give the legal basis for the delay.

Emergencies

Jinu may access, preserve and disclose information where we believe in good faith that it is reasonably necessary to comply with the law or a valid governmental request, to enforce our Terms of Service, to address fraud or security problems, or to protect the rights, property or safety of Jinu, our members or the public. Mark an emergency request clearly and say what the risk is and how immediate it is.

What Jinu does and does not hold

  • Payments. Jinu never processes money between a buyer and a seller and holds no card details. Publishing fees and promotion are charged through our payment processor, and card data lives with them, not with us.
  • Messages. Direct messages are deleted after about 18 months of inactivity in a conversation, with exceptions where a message has been reported, relates to an ongoing transaction, or carries a photo or file. A preservation request should therefore arrive before that.
  • Logs. Retention for device and log information is described in section 06 of the Privacy Policy.

For members, not officers

If you are a Jinu member wondering when your information could be handed over, the answer is in the Privacy Policy and in Moderation and enforcement, which sets out the same rules from your side. Reporting a crime to the police is always yours to do and does not need our involvement; see "I think I have been scammed" in this section.
