Verify your phone number

Verifying a phone number confirms you can receive a text at a number you control. It takes one message and about a minute. This article replaces an earlier one that said the feature was built but not switched on; it is switched on now.

How to do it

Open Settings, then Login and security, and use Verify a phone number on the Phone card. It opens where you are, so you do not lose the rest of the page. The same screen has its own address at jinu.app/account/phone if you would rather go straight there.

Enter a United States mobile number, tick the box agreeing to receive the code, and press Send code. The button stays inactive until the box is ticked, which is deliberate: the message is only ever sent because you asked for it.

What you will receive

One text message, containing a six digit code, and only when you press the button. Jinu sends no marketing and no recurring messages to that number. Reply STOP to stop messages, or HELP for help. Message and data rates may apply.

The rules the sender follows

  • United States mobile numbers only.
  • One number per account, and one account per number.
  • One code per number per minute. Pressing send again inside that minute is refused rather than sending a second message, so you are never charged twice for one request.
  • Fifteen code requests per account per ten minutes, and five code entries per ten minutes, after which you are asked to wait.

What it is used for

A verified number is a trust signal on your profile and it is required for the Trusted Seller badge, alongside the deals, reviews, rating, reply rate and account age that badge asks for. It is optional otherwise: everything else on Jinu works without it.

Your number is never shown to anyone. It is not published on your profile, not given to buyers or sellers, and not used to contact you about anything else.

If the code does not arrive

Give it a minute before trying again, because a second press inside that minute is refused by design. Check the number for a typo, and check that it is a mobile line rather than a landline. If it still does not arrive, write to hello@jinu.app or use the form at jinu.app/contact.
