Push notifications on iOS and Android
Push uses the same six notification types as email, with its own Push switch on each row in Settings under Notifications. Turning one on asks your browser or your phone for permission, and if permission is refused, Jinu turns the switch back off rather than leaving it on with nothing behind it.
Where push actually arrives today
- Browsers, including Jinu installed to your home screen. Supported. Turning a Push switch on triggers your browser's permission prompt.
- The iOS app. Supported, through Apple's push service, and independent of the browser setup.
- The Android app. Not yet. The Android app is built and the switches are there, but Jinu's servers do not deliver push to it yet. Turning the switch on will not produce a notification on an Android phone today. Email still works normally, and so does the notification bell inside the app.
We would rather say that than leave you wondering why a switch you turned on does nothing.
Two places can switch push off
A notification has to get past both your Jinu settings and your device settings, and the device wins.
- In Jinu: Settings, Notifications, the Push switch on the row you care about.
- On iOS: the Settings app, Notifications, Jinu. If Allow Notifications is off there, nothing you do inside Jinu will bring it back.
- On Android: the Settings app, Apps, Jinu, Notifications.
- In a browser: the site permissions for jinu.app. If you blocked notifications once, most browsers will not ask again until you clear that block yourself.
Quiet hours
Do not disturb, on the same Notifications screen, suppresses push inside a nightly window you choose, and applies to push only: email is unaffected and still arrives during the window. Set the window on the Jinu website if you can. The site records your timezone alongside the hours, so they are evaluated exactly where you are.
Two in-app settings that are not push
- Notification badge. The red dot on the inbox icon when you have unread messages.
- Sound on new message. Off by default.
If push has stopped working
- Check the device setting first. It is the most common cause and the one Jinu cannot see.
- Check quiet hours is not covering the time you are testing.
- Check the Push switch on the specific row. The six types are separate, so offers can be on while messages are off.
- On a browser, if you have changed device, cleared site data or reinstalled, turn the switch off and on again to register the new browser.
