Filter by distance and location
On the website, open Location in the filter panel, drop a point on the map and set a radius with the slider. The iOS and Android apps do not have that slider: they scope the feed to a city instead, which is why the same search can return different results on your phone and on your laptop.
On the website
- Open the filters and choose Location.
- Use your current location, pick a recent one, or type a city.
- Drag the radius slider. The steps are 1, 2, 5, 10, 16, 20, 25, 40, 50, 60, 80, 100, 250 and 500 miles, and the circle on the map redraws as you move it.
- Apply. The results are limited to listings inside the circle, and a Nearest option appears in the Sort control, which is only offered once a location is set.
Your default radius lives in Settings under Default location, where the choices are 5, 10, 25, 50 and 100 miles. It starts at 25.
In the apps
The apps filter the feed by the city on the listing rather than by a circle drawn on a map. A listing 30 miles away in a neighboring town is inside a 40 mile radius on the website, and outside a city filter in the app. Neither is broken; they are two different questions. If you cannot find on your phone something you saw on your laptop, this is usually why.
Why a listing can be missing from a distance search
Distance is measured from the coordinates of the city the seller typed. If a seller entered something Jinu could not resolve to a real place, that listing has no coordinates and it will not appear in any radius search, however close it actually is. Widening the radius will not surface it, but clearing the location filter will.
What Jinu does with your position
When you use your current location, the coordinates are rounded before they are used, and a rounded coordinate can appear in the address of the results page and therefore in ordinary server logs. The detail, and how long those logs are kept, is in the Privacy Policy. You never have to share your position: typing a city does the same job.
