Search for something specific

Type what you want into the search bar at the top of the page and press Enter. You do not need an account to search or to browse; an account is only needed to message a seller or to post.

The suggestions as you type

Nothing drops down when you click into the box. Once you have typed two characters, a panel appears with two kinds of row:

• Finished searches. The top rows complete what you are typing. The arrow keys move between them, Enter runs the one that is highlighted, and the small arrow on the right drops the text into the box so you can edit it instead of running it.
• Matching listings. Below those, live listings whose titles match. Choosing one of these opens that listing directly rather than running a search.

The suggestions are scoped to the category you are in, so typing "table" while you are inside Furniture suggests furniture, and to your city when you have one set.

Searching inside one category

The control on the left of the search field shows All, or the category you are currently in. Set it before you search and the results stay inside that category. It is the difference between every "case" on Jinu and the phone cases you meant.

What search actually matches

Search reads the title and the description of every live listing. It combines two methods: one that matches meaning, so "couch" finds a listing that says sofa, and one that matches words, including a tolerance for typos, so "refridgerator" still finds refrigerators. Results from both are merged rather than one replacing the other.

If nothing comes back

• Take a word out. Two specific words usually beat five.
• Widen the category to All.
• Widen or clear the distance filter. See "Filter by distance and location" in this section.
• Try the plain name instead of the brand, or the brand instead of the model.

Being told when something new turns up

If a search matters enough to repeat, save it. A saved search can email you when new listings match it, and you manage them, including turning the alerts off, in your account under Saved searches. Which of those emails you get is controlled in Settings under Notifications.
