How to post a listing, step by step

Posting runs in four steps: choose what you are posting, add photos, fill in the details, then review and publish. You need a free Jinu account to post, and in most categories posting costs nothing.

Before you start

  • Sign in. Browsing Jinu needs no account, but posting and messaging do.
  • Have photos ready. Every category except jobs needs at least one photo, and you can add up to ten.
  • Know the city. Listings are local, and the city you enter decides which feeds and city pages you appear in.

Opening the form

Use the Post button in the top bar on a computer, or the Post tab at the bottom of the screen on a phone. The address is jinu.app/post.

The four steps

  1. Choose what you are posting. The choices are Item for sale, Vehicle, Property, Stays, Job listing and Service. Job listing opens the separate job form at jinu.app/jobs/post, because a job has no photos and asks different questions. Everything else continues in the same flow. If you would rather start from a photograph and let Jinu draft the listing, use Quick Post instead.
  2. Add your photos. The first photo is the cover, and it is the one buyers see in the feed. You can drag to reorder them.
  3. Fill in the details. Title, description, price, city, and whatever else the category asks for: condition and delivery for goods, make and mileage for a vehicle, bedrooms and rent for a property.
  4. Review and publish. The last step shows the listing as a buyer will see it. Press Publish listing when it looks right.

The progress bar at the top counts the four steps, and the header shows Saving, Saved or Not saved as your work is stored. See "Save a draft and finish later" in this section for how that works.

What the form will not let you skip

  • A title of at least 4 characters.
  • A description of at least 20 characters.
  • At least one photo, in every category except jobs.
  • A city.
  • A contact email, which is filled in for you when you are signed in.

A price is optional. Leave it blank and the listing reads Contact for price.

What it costs

Most listings are free to post. The paid ones are:

  • Jobs, $20
  • Services, $5
  • Property, $3
  • Stays, $3
  • Vehicles sold by a dealer or a business, $3. A vehicle sold by a private owner is free.

Everything else, including all general goods, is free for every kind of seller. The fee is for publishing the listing. Jinu takes no commission on the sale itself: a local cash deal costs 0%, permanently.

In a paid category, pressing Publish opens checkout. The listing is created straight away but sits at Payment pending and is not public until the payment goes through. If you close checkout, the listing waits for you in My listings and you can pay from there.

After you publish

A free listing goes live immediately unless our automated screening holds it for review. Listings run for 30 days and can be renewed up to three times, to a maximum of 120 days from when they were created.

What you may and may not list is set out in the Community Guidelines and the Prohibited and restricted items policy.
