What every listing needs
Every listing needs a title, a description, a city and at least one photo. Jobs are the single exception to the photo rule, and a price is optional everywhere.
The required fields
- Title. Between 4 and 120 characters. On a job it is between 3 and 120.
- Description. At least 20 characters and up to 5,000. A job description must be at least 50 characters, and the job form stops you at 5,000 as well.
- Photos. At least one, up to ten. Jobs have no photo field at all, which is why they are exempt. The first photo is the cover.
- City. Where the item is. See "Setting the location on a listing" in this section.
- Contact email. Filled in from your account when you are signed in.
Price is optional
Leave the price blank and the listing reads Contact for price. That is a real choice, not an unfinished listing, and it suits things where the number depends on the specifics. Prices are whole dollars.
If you do set a price, you can mark it Firm, and a firm listing will not take offers. The toggle appears only once there is a real price on the listing, so a free item or a $0 price cannot be firm, and it is not offered at all on property, services or stays. A stay is always published firm, because a stay books on the host's own site rather than through an offer here.
What jobs need instead of photos
A job listing must have a workplace type (on site, remote or hybrid) and an employment type (full time, part time, contract, internship or temporary), on top of the title, city, description and a contact email. Pay is optional, but if you give both a minimum and a maximum, the minimum has to be the lower of the two.
What the category adds
Beyond the shared fields, each category asks for what buyers filter on. Goods ask for condition and how you will hand the item over (pickup, meetup or delivery). Vehicles ask for make, model, year and mileage. Property asks for bedrooms, bathrooms, property type and whether it is for sale or to rent. Stays ask for guests, nights and amenities. None of these are busywork: they are the filters that put your listing in front of the buyer who is looking for exactly it.
What must not be in a listing
Anything on the Prohibited and restricted items list, and anything that breaks the Community Guidelines. Property listings are additionally screened for wording that would breach fair housing law, and a match holds the listing for a person to look at rather than publishing it.
