Setting the location on a listing
Type your city into the Location field and pick one of the suggestions, or use Use my location beside the field to fill it from your device. The city you set is what decides which local feeds, city pages and distance searches your listing turns up in.
How to set it
- In the details step of the post form, find the Location field.
- Start typing your town or city. Suggestions appear after a few characters.
- Pick the suggestion that matches. It fills in as "City, ST" in the United States, which is the form the rest of Jinu understands.
Use my location asks your browser for your position and turns it into a city name. Your browser will ask permission first, and if you decline, nothing happens and you can type the city instead.
Why the exact wording matters
Jinu normalizes the city you enter into a canonical form and geocodes it. Two things depend on that working:
- Distance filtering. On the website, buyers can set a point on the map and a radius. Your listing is matched against that circle using the coordinates of the city you entered. A city Jinu cannot resolve has no coordinates, so the listing can be missed by everyone filtering by distance.
- City pages. Jinu publishes browse pages for cities and categories. A listing whose city matches a known city appears on them; a listing with a hand-typed variant may not.
So pick the suggestion rather than typing a nickname, an abbreviation or a neighborhood name.
What buyers see
Buyers see the city, not your street address. Jinu never asks for your home address on a listing and never publishes one. Where you actually meet is something you agree in the conversation, and Meet in a busy public place is worth reading before you agree to anywhere.
Changing it
Open the listing from My listings and edit the location. If you have moved, you also have a default location in Settings under Marketplace, which is what new listings and your browse feed start from.
