Meet in a busy public place
Meet where other people already are: a staffed store, a bank lobby, a busy coffee shop, a supermarket parking lot in daylight. Say the name of the place, not a street corner.
Why an empty parking lot at midnight is the worst possible choice
It removes every protection at once. No witnesses, so nobody can describe what happened. No cameras, so there is no record. Nobody to call for help and no reason for anyone to walk past. And a place chosen for exactly those reasons is the place a person planning something asks for.
Almost every in-person incident starts with a location that was agreed too easily. The single most useful thing you can do is refuse the quiet spot and name a busy one instead.
What a good meeting place has
- People around who are not part of the deal.
- Lighting, and a time of day where the lighting is not the point.
- Cameras: a storefront, a bank, a gas station.
- Somewhere you can walk away from on foot, without needing them to move a car first.
- Somewhere you already know, on your side of town.
Do not meet at either home for a first exchange
Not yours, not theirs. If the item genuinely cannot travel, such as a wardrobe or a refrigerator, read the article in this section about selling from your home before you agree to anything.
Hold the place and the time
Agree both in the Jinu conversation so there is a record of what was arranged. Treat a late change to somewhere quieter as a reason to stop, not an inconvenience to accommodate. "My car broke down, can you come to me instead" at the last minute is a pattern, not bad luck.
If they will not meet in public
That alone is enough. You do not owe an explanation and you do not need to argue about it. Stop replying and report the listing.
Reporting and blocking
To report a listing, open it, use the more menu (the three dots), choose Report listing, and pick a reason: Spam or scam, Prohibited item, Wrong category, Already sold, or Other. A seller profile has Report seller, which offers a different set of reasons: Spam or scam, Harassment, Impersonation, Counterfeit or fake, Offensive content, or Other. A conversation has Report and Block this user, and the conversation report takes no reason at all.
Blocking is immediate and mutual: neither of you can message the other afterwards. Blocked people are listed in Settings under Blocked accounts.
For anything urgent, email safety@jinu.app. If you are in danger or a crime is in progress, call 911 first and tell Jinu afterwards.
The rest of the Safety center covers the same ground in detail: How to spot a scam for the patterns, Instant transfer requests: Zelle, Cash App, Venmo, wire for payment methods, and I think I have been scammed for what to do afterwards.
