Meeting alone: extra precautions

If you cannot take anybody with you, make sure somebody else knows exactly where you are while you are there.

Before you leave

• Share your live location from your phone with one person, for the duration of the meeting. Both iPhone and Android can do this from Messages or Maps.
• Send them the listing link, the address and the time.
• Agree a check-in: "if you have not heard from me by 3.30, call me".
• Charge your phone.

Keep the conversation on Jinu until you meet

Arrange everything in the Jinu inbox: the place, the time, the price, the condition. Two reasons. It is the only record Jinu can review if you report the person afterwards, and moving to text or another app deletes that. And "let us take this to text straight away" is one of the oldest openers there is, because it moves you somewhere with no history and no report button.

Swapping numbers when you are on your way to meet is a different thing and is reasonable. Doing it before anything has been agreed is not.

When you get there

• Arrive a few minutes early and park facing out, so leaving does not require a three-point turn.
• Keep your keys and your phone in your hand.
• Stay in the open, in view of other people. Do not follow anyone around a building, into a garage, or up to an apartment.
• Do not get into their vehicle and do not let them into yours.
• Keep the item and the money apart until you are satisfied with both.

Give yourself permission to leave

You can end a meeting at any point, without a reason, mid-sentence. You do not owe a stranger politeness, an explanation, or the deal. Being thought rude has never cost anyone anything close to what going through with a bad meeting can.

Trust the small refusals rather than waiting for something obvious: somebody who will not meet in public, will not give a name, will not talk on Jinu, keeps changing the plan, pressures you to hurry, or brings people who were not mentioned.

Nobody has been vetted

Jinu does not verify sellers or buyers and does not run background checks. Phone verification is optional, seller-initiated, and not currently available. Treat every profile as unverified, because that is what it is.

Reporting and blocking

To report a listing, open it, use the more menu (the three dots), choose Report listing, and pick a reason: Spam or scam, Prohibited item, Wrong category, Already sold, or Other. A seller profile has Report seller, which offers a different set of reasons: Spam or scam, Harassment, Impersonation, Counterfeit or fake, Offensive content, or Other. A conversation has Report and Block this user, and the conversation report takes no reason at all.

Blocking is immediate and mutual: neither of you can message the other afterwards. Blocked people are listed in Settings under Blocked accounts.
