My listing was flagged and it looked completely fine
The screening that runs when you publish matches patterns, not intentions, so an honest listing can trip it on a single phrase. Most of the time the listing is held for a person to look at rather than deleted, and a reviewer can release it.
Housing wording, which is where this happens most
Property listings are checked separately against fair housing law, which makes it unlawful to advertise a preference about who lives somewhere. The rule catches ordinary phrases that landlords use without meaning any harm:
- No kids, no children, no families, no infants.
- Adults only, no minors, childless.
- Singles only, couples only.
- Men only, women only, male only, female only, and single female or single male preferred.
- Any religion, nationality or ethnicity described as preferred or excluded, and citizens only or English speaking preferred.
- No section 8, no housing vouchers, no government assistance.
- Anything excluding a disability, a wheelchair, or a service animal.
The fix is the same in every case: describe the property, never the tenant. "Two bedrooms, one bathroom, quiet street, no pets, unfurnished" is fine. "Ideal for a quiet professional couple" is not, because it describes who you want. There is more in the Property guide article on fair housing.
Ordinary words that collide with a prohibited category
The screener also watches phrases attached to prohibited goods, and they turn up in innocent listings. A bong or a pipe listed for sale, vape in a title, airbag or rebuilt title in a car part, gift card, concert tickets, rehoming fee on a pet crate, used makeup, weight-loss anything. If your listing is stopped, look for one of these in your title first.
The words that reject outright
A short list of spam and scam phrases is refused rather than reviewed, so the listing never publishes at all. Click here, wire transfer, Western Union, MoneyGram, WhatsApp me, Telegram me, make money fast, work from home guaranteed, free iPhone. Take the phrase out and post again.
What to do
- Reread the title and the first lines of the description. That is where the match usually is.
- Edit the listing to remove the phrase and describe the item or the property plainly. An edit runs the checks again.
- Wait for the review. A held listing needs a person to release it, so editing alone does not put it back in the feed.
- If you think the hold is wrong and it has not moved, write to safety@jinu.app with the listing link and what you think was matched.
Two things to expect
Automated screening produces false positives on purpose. Where the alternative is publishing a discriminatory housing ad, holding a legitimate listing for a few hours is the cheaper mistake, and that is the trade Jinu has chosen.
