Prohibited items on Jinu

Some things cannot be listed on Jinu at all, and a small number of categories are allowed in principle but held for a person to look at before they go live. This page is the plain-language version. The full policy is at Prohibited and restricted items, and it is the one that governs.

Prohibited outright

These may not be offered, asked for, advertised, or arranged through Jinu, whether for sale, for rent, for hire, in trade, or free:

  • Weapons, ammunition, explosives, and the regulated accessories that go with them.
  • Alcohol, tobacco and nicotine including vapes, illegal drugs and paraphernalia, and anything that needs a prescription.
  • Live animals, animal parts from protected species, and anything to do with animal fighting.
  • Counterfeits, replicas, and anything that infringes someone else's copyright, trademark or design.
  • Stolen goods, and goods with a removed or altered serial number.
  • Recalled products and products under an active stop-sale notice.
  • Adult content, sexual services, and anything that exploits a person.
  • Identity documents, currency, financial instruments, and account credentials or subscriptions.
  • Medical and healthcare products, body parts and fluids, hazardous materials, and used cosmetics.
  • Hate speech and hate symbols, harassment, and content that promotes discrimination.
  • Another person's private information, and scraped contact data.
  • Restricted vehicle parts such as airbags and emissions-defeat devices, and vehicles without lawful title.
  • Fraud in every shape: fake listings, advance-fee and pyramid schemes, gambling, phishing.
  • Spam. Duplicate listings, bulk posting, repeated reposting to climb the feed, and posts that offer nothing at all.

Restricted, which is a different thing

Event tickets, gift cards and vouchers, and pet-adoption matching services are not banned outright, but Jinu approves no sellers in them today, so listings in those categories are held for review and are likely to be removed. There is more detail in "Restricted: gift cards, event tickets and pet adoption services".

How this is enforced

Every listing is screened when it is published. The screen includes a blocked-word check that can reject a listing on the spot, a fair-housing check on property listings, a check against the prohibited and restricted categories above, a scam-pattern check, and a safety classifier. Most hits hold the listing for a person to review rather than deleting it, because the alternative is throwing out legitimate listings that happen to use a word.

Automated screening does not catch everything, and reports from members are a real part of how this works. Report a listing from the listing itself: open the more menu, choose Report, and pick a reason.

Money

Publishing fees are not refunded for a listing that is removed, held or rejected under this policy. If you are not sure whether something is allowed, do not list it, and ask safety@jinu.app first.
