Using Jinu on your phone
Everything on Jinu works on a phone, in the browser or in the iPhone and Android apps. The phone layout is not a squeezed desktop: the home screen in particular is built differently, and knowing that saves you looking for a shelf that is not there.
Home is one feed
On a computer, home is a stack of themed rows. On a phone, home is a single continuous feed of listings near you, two cards to a row, that keeps loading as you scroll. There are no shelves to swipe sideways through. Recommended items appear at the top of that feed rather than in a separate carousel, and jobs appear as their own blocks of three inside it.
The feed is the same inventory the desktop rows are drawn from, in recency and distance order, so nothing is hidden from you by being on a phone.
The bar at the bottom
Five controls, left to right:
- Home, a house. Tapping it while already on home scrolls back to the top.
- My listings, a tag. Everything you have posted, including drafts and expired listings.
- Post, a filled circle with a plus. Opens the picker for what you are posting.
- Inbox, a speech bubble, with a dot when you have something unread.
- Account, a person. Your profile, which is also your account hub.
The bar hides itself on full-screen flows, such as the post composer, a listing page and an open conversation, so those screens get the whole display. Tapping Post or Inbox while signed out opens the sign-in sheet, because both need an account.
Other phone differences worth knowing
- Search is a button in the top bar that opens a full-screen overlay with your recent searches, rather than an always-visible field.
- Location is a pill under the header. The desktop radius slider is not on the phone; the phone feed is scoped to your city.
- Photos can be taken inside Jinu. Choosing Add photos opens the camera directly rather than sending you to the system picker first.
- Boost on the website offers a custom amount between $6 and $50. The iPhone and Android apps offer the three fixed tiers only.
- Breadcrumbs above a listing title are hidden on phones, to keep the title at the top of the screen.
Installing it
The website can be added to your home screen from your browser's share menu, and it then opens without browser chrome. The native apps are the iPhone and Android builds; anything you post in one appears in all of them, because they share one account and one set of listings.
