What happens after you report something
Every report is recorded and raises an alert to the moderation queue, where a person reviews it. Here is the whole path, including the part where you may hear nothing back and why.
Immediately
- The report is stored and a moderation alert is raised.
- You see a short acknowledgement in the app. If it failed to file you are shown an error instead of a thank you, so the acknowledgement is real.
- If yours is the third distinct person to report that live listing, it is moved out of the public feeds automatically, pending review.
The queue
Reports are worked in order of seriousness rather than arrival. Anything involving a child and credible threats of violence are handled first, then scams, prohibited items and harassment, then impersonation, counterfeits and offensive content, then the routine tier of spam, wrong category and already sold. Automated flags raised by Jinu's own screening sit in the same queue.
Jinu does not monitor reports around the clock, and there is no guaranteed response time. If a person is at risk right now, that is a matter for emergency services, not for this queue. See Urgent safety concerns.
The possible outcomes
- Nothing, because no violation was found.
- The listing, photograph, message or review is removed or hidden.
- The listing is held for review while it is assessed.
- The member gets a warning.
- Features are limited on their account, such as messaging or posting.
- The account is suspended, or terminated permanently.
- The matter is referred to law enforcement.
What is chosen depends on how serious it was, whether it looks deliberate, the harm caused or risked, and the member's history. Repeat violations escalate, and evading enforcement, by opening a new account or reposting removed content, is itself grounds for terminating every account involved.
Whether you hear the result
- Reported while signed in: when the report is resolved you get an email. It says either that a violation was found and action was taken, which may include removing the content, or that no violation was found this time. If you have more context you can reply to it.
- Reported signed out: nothing, because no address was attached to the report.
The email will not tell you what specifically happened to the other account. Enforcement against a member is between Jinu and that member, and the same rule protects you.
If you were the one reported
A removal comes with an email naming the reason and telling you how to appeal: reply to it, or write to safety@jinu.app from the address on your account with Appeal in the subject line, the listing URL and why you think the decision was wrong. Where practical the appeal is read by somebody who was not involved in the original decision. If it was wrong, the content or the account is restored. If it is upheld, you are told which rule was applied. The full procedure is on the Reporting and moderation page.
