Why renewal was refused

Renewal is refused once another 30 days would carry the listing past 120 days from the day it was created, which is the same thing as having used your three renewals. The message reads "This listing has reached the maximum number of renewals (3). Please create a new listing."

Why the count does not match what you expected

The limit is measured against the listing's creation date, not against the last time you renewed and not against the number of times you clicked Renew. Two things follow. Renewing early still consumes the window, because each renewal resets the expiry to 30 days from that moment rather than adding to what was left. And nothing else you do to the listing buys more time: bumping it, pausing it, reserving it, marking it sold and relisting it all leave the creation date alone.

The other reasons a renewal can fail

  • You are not signed in as the owner. The manage link alone is not enough. Sign in with the account that posted the listing or the account whose email is on it.
  • The account is suspended. A suspended account cannot republish anything.
  • The listing is in review, awaiting payment, or deleted. Renew extends the date but leaves the status alone, so the listing will not come back to the feed. Wait for the review, finish the payment, or post again.

What to do instead

Post the item again. A new listing gets a full 30 days and its own 120-day window, and it is a good moment to rewrite the title, take better photos, or lower the price. If the item is in a category with a publishing fee, posting again costs that fee again. There is no discount for reposting and no way to extend a listing past the ceiling.
